Hey guys, in case you haven't been on the section of our website titled "Current Requests" - we have noted specific locations that are allegedly haunted in our areas that we would like to search into further. These are all locations that have stories behind them of hauntings in my searching on the internet. All I can really find are little blurbs about them here or there. What I would like you to do is help the group out by finding anything you can on any/all of these locations. Whatever it may be - accounts of hauntings from witnesses, location history, etc. This way we can look into seeing if it would warrant trying to get an actual investigation set up.Just so you guys realize, what we do with all of this information we gather is basically form a library of each location. We will pull the history and any documentation on it together with the interviews we conduct with witnesses to the hauntings or contacts for the location, any pictures we take, along with our investigation reports - pictures - evps - etc. These will all be available for use within the group for your research (but obviously for our group only.)So lets try and pull up some info! Any help is appreciated! And keep the suggestions of locations coming!!Historic Hotel Baker?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice:smarttags" />St. Charles,ILChanningMemorialElementary SchoolElgin,ILRockfordCollegeRockford,ILCuneoMuseum/ MansionVernon Hills,ILCatlow TheaterBarrington,ILArcada TheaterSt. Charles,ILRaueCenterCrystal Lake,ILJasterBuildingCrystal Lake,ILColonel Palmer HouseCrystal Lake,ILHeavenCityComplexMukwonago,WIShimerCollegeWaukegan,ILBarnes & Noble Book StoreCrystal Lake,ILBurlingtonActingSchool?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" />360 E Chestnut St-Burlington,WIBig River RestaurantGenoa,WIInstant Replay Sports BarCarpentersville,ILCountry House RestaurantClarendon Hills,ILRialto Theater -Joliet,ILPatrickHaleyMansion-Joliet,ILHegeler-CarusMansion-LaSalle,ILLocations in Galena, IL?

ooooh sounds good!  a tour would be fun anyway, if it has history, I'm there!  If nothing else, I'm happy just learning all i can about everything.   But that is awesome that you went right up to the guy and asked him if if was haunted.  YAY!  Erica, I will check out some of those links too . .

Yeah Chris - we should definitely get a small group to go just for the tour if nothing else and give it a try. We can try to seek out some other hauntings in the Vernon Hills area also the same day to get more out of the trip. But, yeah, when we are there we can try to speak to the people behind the scenes to get some good stories about the place and find out who we need to speak to in order to bring an investigation there. Then if they are there we can leave our information with them (perhaps a copy of our letter of inquiry also) and tell them to think about it, otherwise we'll just send a packet in the mail like we'll be doing for some of the other places that are weary of us. Then we'll follow up with a phone call in a week or two if we've heard nothing. I'm really interested in these old places - so beautiful!

Speaking of historical places... Troy Taylor gives the American Ghost Society a pamphlet of info upon starting up... in it is some pretty useful information that I wanted to pass on to those interested in helping us research...

National Register of Historic Place
Individual Historic Buildings - by state
My favorite! - Historic American Engineering Records (with drawings, photos, etc.!)

Hopefully that will give our helpful researches some help while searching for locations! I've been looking at that last one a lot, and if nothing else have found some interesting places to check into... the sites may not say if they are haunted or not - but it's a good start to check into!

Hey,

The Cuneio Museum is open to the public for tours. We may not be able to wip out the EMF meters or anything but we could still go and check it out. Not even sure if they let people take pictures because of the historical items in the home.

I went there for a wedding about 2 years ago now. There is a definite feeling there! The wedding was in the evening and was out side. Had to go into the building for the washrooms though.  I was alone and kept getting "feelings". I went right up to a security guard there and asked him if it was haunted. He had a very perplexed look and told me to come with him and that it was funny I should ask. So he takes me in side to the other security guards and we start talking. They believe the place is haunted. Sounds of foot steps where no one is... An electrician fled after seeing an apparition of a woman in one of the bedrooms. General feelings of discomfort and being watched.  The guards on duty that night snuck me in and took myself and my boyfriend's mother all over for an unofficial tour way after hours.. They were awesome! Very interesting  old building. Out side the gardens are gorgeous!(if you like that kind of thing)  Not sure they are looking for any kind of publicity of ghosts and hauntings etc. They market themselves for the rental of the grounds for special events. Maybe if we go there I will recognize a couple of the security guards if they are still there.

Should we at least go check it out for something to do one day?

Exactly!!!  Unfortunately, people read the list and accept it as truth and that's how vandalism and loitering happens in those areas.  It's sad really.  The weirdest thing to me is how easy it is to get people to believe stuff!

Shady, it sounds like you already know this but Shadowlands does not research the places they put on their index. Any story they get, they just list on there and wait for someone to tell them otherwise. In other words, you can email them right now that your toilet is haunted and it will be on there tomorrow. I'm going to try to get them to take an absolutely ridiculous one offbut they are severly backed up with this. There is actually a thread on the SL message board about this issue right now!

No kidding! They put anything and everything UP there, but once you find out otherwise about a place, they'll take their sweet time to post THAT up there! (If ever!)  It's funny because the story they have on there about Crystal Lake, IL - the YMCA is directly next to the building I work in which is adjacent to the woods there.  And... happens to be the farmhouse to the barn and land that these supposed "murders" or whatever took place.  Umm... no - I've worked here 5 years and have exhausted all of the possibilities.  About the most "paranormal" thing that occurred here, was in the barn where these murders supposedly took place, we did find an urn with a lady's ashes in it while clearing it out for storage purposes.  The family that owned the barn had moved across country to where farmland was still prospering at the time so they could continue their family business (I believe in the late 70's or early 80's when this area began really losing all of it's farms) - and left poor grandma behind in the barn (I'm sure by accident, but who knows!).  Nope, no hauntings here.  The old farmhouse itself can get pretty creepy at night, especially in the basement... but you know... what place doesn't really?  But that doesn't always deem a place haunted.  And for the "screams"... well, I have never heard them... but you know the woods and all, I've heard animals make some pretty freaky sounds before that could easily be mistaken for children screaming or women screaming...  it could be anything.  Stupid urban legends... who the heck starts them anyways??

Okay, I will start looking them up and see if I can find anything of interest!  I haven't researched any of the places listed before, so it will be interesting!
