I hate to say I told you so....but

The problem I have with most of these shows "Most Haunted", "Scariest Places", "Dead Tenants", etc, is that you never know what's REALLY going on...behind the scenes. I remember thinking "Scariest Places On Earth" was the greatest show ever (years ago). I even missed it after they took it off the air. However, after a ghosthunt with Erica at Waverly Hills Sanitorium in Kentucky, and hearing what REALLY happened when the "Scariest Places" crew filmed there, my entire outlook on these ghosthunting shows changed.

We were told about how they edited footage to protray people "a certain way", and how they rigged surroundings in order to cause "spiritual activity." Hearing things like this really disappointed me. Here we are trying to do something serious, and the people that are our so-called voices to the public are making us look like a comedic endeavor. It's frankly embarassing. I would much rather see a show where people show a site, talk about the history of the site, go in teams to investigate, and not find anything at all. 4 way camera views to show all angles of the room. A show that's not afraid to demonstrate that ghosthunting isn't about instant gratification, but a determined search to find evidence of the supernatural. However, since that doesn't make for good television, nor high ratings, I doubt if THAT show will ever see the light of day. Instead, we will get bubble-gum, bump in the dark, "what was that", "did you hear that?", random sceaming, and hoax mediums as it's much more of a weekly guaranteed payoff for each episode. And, since showbiz is all about the show and the biz, that translates to what is entertaining, and what will produce the most revenue. Which is why I'm afraid we will forever be watching these sideshow actors pretending they're being chased by evil spirits, and touched by the supernatural (each week -impressively enough), leaving the REAL WORK up to groups like ours.

PLEASE NOTE: This is not to say that every and any person that has been on television regarding ghosthunting is a fraud or a hoax. I believe that T.A.P.S. in some ways has the right idea, and I am quite impressed with Peter Jordan. However, the people that have made it on the television that are actually genuine, are unfortunately far and few between.

Here - why not keep the flames of this wreck burning brightly!

"MOST HAUNTED" A HOAX??

Based on the many comments that we have received about our reviews concerning the show "Most Haunted", we thought our readers might be interested in the following article that appeared in the UK's "Daily Mirror". We can't vouch for the authenticity of the article, any more than we would dare vouch for the authenticity of this silly show, but let's just say that we wouldn't be surprised by its accuracy.

TV'S MOST HAUNTED CON EXPOSED

TV medium 'faked' being possessed by dead jailer Producer hit soundman and pretended it was a ghost --- By Matt Roper

The TV show that has spooked millions with its footage of hauntings and poltergeists is today exposed as a fake - by one its own stars. Resident parapsychologist Dr Ciaran O'Keeffe has sensationally lifted the lid on the ghost hunting series, Most Haunted ... and claims that the public is being deceived by "showmanship and dramatics."

He accuses the show's medium Derek Acorah of hoodwinking viewers by pretending to communicate with spirits and obtaining information about locations prior to filming.

The Mirror has also obtained unedited footage which appears to show presenter Yvette Fielding and her husband faking 'paranormal' occurrences such as ghostly bumps and knocks.

Most Haunted has quickly achieved cult status since it was launched in 2002 and is LivingTV's most successful programme. Millions of viewers tune in regularly to watch Ex-Blue Peter girl Yvette and her team of ghost hunters spend the night in some of Britain's most haunted locations. It has made Acorah - who claims to be guided by an Ethiopian spirit guide called Sam - into one of the country's best-known psychics.

Yvette Fielding has said of the show - which is made by her husband Karl Beattie's production company Antix Productions: "There is no acting in this programme, none whatsoever. Everything you see and you hear is real. It's not made up, it's not acted."

But our investigation reveals how the programme uses careful editing to mislead viewers and, on at least one occasion, has even lied about the location of filming.

Ciaran, a lecturer in the paranormal at Liverpool's Hope University, knows speaking out will probably put an end to his media career... but he believes viewers should know the truth. He says: "I think it's time to open the dialogue about what I've experienced on Most Haunted. There have been many incidents with the medium that have been brushed under the carpet. I was put in the show to give a professional slant to it, to give it an element of credibility, but the sceptical argument is just swept away. In my opinion, we're not dealing with genuine mediumship."

He says he isn't the only member of the crew who feels viewers are being cheated. "Other crew members have been irked by Derek and what's going on, because it turns what should be a serious investigation into a laughing matter."

And our exclusive footage shows other members of the team occasionally forget they are on camera. One of our clips, later edited out, shows Karl push an unwitting sound man in the dark and pretend it was a poltergeist attack.

In the remaining footage he says (after surreptitiously hitting the soundman): "S**t, did you feel that?"

Yvette: Are you all right? What's happened?

Karl: I felt something touch me on my shoulder.

Soundman: I felt something hit me.

And in another edited clip with medium Ian Lawman, Yvette is seen on camera making a deep sigh. In the scene that eventually went to air, Ian (after Yvette sighs) says: "What's that noise?

Yvette: What noise? Like a moan?

Ian: Breathing or something.

Yvette: I heard like an 'arrggh'.

Ciaran, who joined Most Haunted in April 2004 became suspicious of Acorah's antics on a shoot at Castle Leslie, Co Monaghan in Ireland where a 17th Century four-poster bed has been claimed to levitate.

Ciaran recalls: "As we walked into the bedroom, Derek touched the bed and came out with extremely accurate information. He insisted he got all the information just from touching the bed. But it was the wrong bed."

Antix Productions claims the mediums have no idea where they will be filming or know any details about the history of the locations.

But Ciaran says: "Derek must have had prior knowledge of the locations."

He devised a plan to see if Derek was deliberately deceiving the public. While on a shoot at Bodmin gaol he invented a long-dead South African jailer called Kreed Kafer - an anagram of Derek Faker. "I wrote the name down and asked another member of the crew to mention it to Derek before filming. I honestly didn't think Derek would take the bait. But during the filming he actually got possessed by my fictional character!"

On the next shoot at Prideaux Place, Cornwall, Ciaran made up another fictional character, highwayman Rik Eedles - an anagram of Derek Lies. Sure enough, Derek made contact with the dead outlaw.

Ciaran says: "In my professional opinion we're not dealing with a genuine medium. When Derek is possessed he is doing it consciously - all we are seeing is showmanship and dramatics."

Ciaran went a step further at Craigievar Castle, near Aberdeen.

"I made up stories about Richard the Lionheart, a witch, and Richard's apparition appearing to walk through a wardrobe - the lion, the witch and the wardrobe!" True to form, Derek mentioned all Ciaran's stories - even though Richard I reigned 500 years BEFORE  Craigievar Castle was built.

The final straw came last month when Most Haunted presented a three-night special from Manchester. On the second evening, the show claimed to be broadcasting live from the site of Cheadle's Victorian asylum, a place where - according to presenter David Bull - thousands died in torment. In fact they were in the derelict remains of Barnes Convalescence Home - where nobody died in torment.

Ciaran remembers: "Derek was communicating with spirits that sounded as if they'd been in an asylum, but it was never an asylum."

Yesterday the Mirror confronted Derek Acorah with Ciaran's allegations. He told us: "I've worked with Ciaran for many shows and he's got every right to say what he says . However, it does shock and surprise me. Not only do I believe that I am a genuine medium - I live my work 24 hours a day. If I thought that I wasn't a true medium, I wouldn't work as one."

A spokesman for LivingTV said: "Ciaran O'Keeffe has worked as the programme's official sceptic for 18 months and during this time has not brought any of his concerns to our attention. LivingTV has not seen any of your filmed evidence, but will fully investigate your claims."

I'm still watching the series. Like I said before, I like to watch a train wreck. I Tivo'd it so I'm watching it in batches. I can't sit there for the three hours. I am finding it fascinating though. Derek's last show, huh? If you notice, he isn't coming up with too much info. I never believed he didn't know a thing about where he was going. Although, isn't the Mirror Britains version of the Star?

I went to their website after my last post. Yvette is married to Carl. It was mentioned during the live broadcast. Derek is married too.

Isn't there something about dogs being sensitive to spirits? I know this sounds weird, but I had to put my cat to sleep a couple of months ago. I see him out of the corner of my eye, hear him, and swear he brushed up against my leg last week. But the weird thing is my dog seems to be chasing it around every once in a while. But then again, she's just a bizarre little dog!

I'm only about half way though. It will probably take me a few more days. I can only take so much, "oh, did you hear that!"

My husband kept mimicking them........"hello, are you out there?"   "Is there someone there?"  are you children?  Push the table, go one push up on the table......I know you can do that.....go on push on the table.   I got out of the show that the TABLE was the focus....and at the end when they were using this huge Oujia board and shot glass (hee hee don't know if they used it off camera first) and were making contact with someone

I hate to stray off topic about another show, but I guess that's why I consider those TAPS guys and their show to be more honest or at least believable, since they're not always concluding that a place is haunted. And to tell you the truth, some of the episodes can be boring when they only find a few pieces of questionable evidence, and that's after the editing! But just like what has been said numerous times before, we'll only be completely satisfied when we experience it ourselves!

By the way, I'm glad to hear you guys and gals had fun on the trip to Elgin! Sorry I couldn't make it!

HA! I want a "Max, the psychic dog"! Very interesting find on the hoax, I guess it doesn't surprise me in the least. That goes to show the wonder and merriment of television land! People suck... you know the scariest stuff we will find is on our own investigations, and you know what, something doesn't happen EVERY TIME... which is the hole they fall into with television shows because they have to please the crowd every single show.

I had to turn off the live episodes myself... they aggrivated me to no end. I fell asleep! Yeah, Derek's last epidsode tonight... hmm... who knew?

Hehe. Everytime I see that dog, I can't help but start laughing. I think the producers of that show have watched too many episodes of Lassie....I can see it now..

Max the dog: Woof woof!

Derek: Wait!! The dog is getting a reading! I can feel it.....what are you saying Max?

Max the dog: Woof woof!

Derek: Yes.....the boy's name is Tim? Timmy? What about Timmy, Max?

Max the dog: Woof woof!

Derek: What?! Little Timmy has fallen into the well?! Oh no!

*Cue Lassie music*

Grrrr.  Okay, I can't find what I'm looking for now.  Well, I was told to check out this http://www.thebubbleburst.co.uk/bb.php?entry=Yvette%20Fielding  cuz it proves that SHE is an actress, NOT anyone who has done anything paranormal so far.  (oh, it also says who she's married to, is that the guy you thought?).  Other than that this link doesn't help me.  Hmm I guess Derek was accidently filmed taking cues from a producer who he was claiming to be a spirit guide.  I'm trying to get the link to that story though!

YES, you all said the main thingI was thinking . . . that poor lady drives me crazy! I have no idea if there was any truth to this but I'm on a message board called Spirit Society and a poster there who is from the UK posted that this Derek guy has been found or proven to be a fraud. I will go see if I can find that thread. Erica, Ann, if I find it can I post the link to it?

Of COURSE!  I hope they never find my other guy a fraud!  I really like him!  I think his name's David.

As for Derek, I don't know if he's a fraud or not - the last episode I watched he did find out some interesting stuff about a wallet a pilot had on him when he died and knew of a receipt in it for which the pilot was supposed to collect on, but instead he died that very day.  The wallet was found intact under the wreckage which happened in WWII - just in 1998!!!  No one was supposed to have known of the wallet or it's contents except the museum owner (as it was not on display with the other artifacts from the wreckage) - however Yvette and the other host/investigator/skeptic/historican/whatever knew about it but had told Derek nothing of it... supposedly.  But he had all this info about it - so if it was real, I was blown away.  Could all be theatrics again though!

Has anyone noticed Yvette holding hands with the guy (I forgot his name) that always walks around with her and Derek? The both have wedding rings (Oh just a little ghostly gossip). I wonder if they are married. But there have been a few times that something will happen and they will grab each others hand. Maybe I'm reading too much into it.
I think she is married to Richard Felix... or wait, maybe it's Carl... oh Crumb - I can't remember!  I know she's married to someone on the show, I read it in a bio of her's someplace.  So maybe she is grabbing her hubby's hand... or maybe she's NOT! That would be pretty funny!

I have not seen that one.....I am currently listening to Dead Tenants and my husband keeps asking me questions about it , he may call me a loon for following this stuff but he is secretly interested.. Ha I have his number. This is the first time I watched it and the psychic and intuitive on these were less dramatic than others I have seen. Will have to watch out for the Most Haunted

Current story on Dead Tenants a big biker dude is afraid to visit his friend home unless someone is walking him to his car at nite. They are having him channel the Civil war soldiers he is feeling...

I knew I saw something about "Jacks Back" . VERY interesting regardless , I saw somewhere online  Jack the Ripper was rumoredto be a FreeMason , here's my theory , being they have such high morals and the FreeMasons didn't realize what a whackjob they'd invited , Jack decided to clean the London Streets of the immoral prostitutes for the good of makind ,lol , just a theory mind you.

Can't wait to watch that one

When I watch Most Haunted, it's like watching a train wreck. I can't stop watching even though some of it seems hokey. I think I brought this up at the 1st meeting, but didn't anyone notice that they have a script writer? Sometimes I think the sounds are made up. It just seems to good to be true. I have to admit the clock one got me. I love the show though, it's just not the TAPS group!

Has anyone noticed Yvette holding hands with the guy (I forgot his name) that always walks around with her and Derek? The both have wedding rings (Oh just a little ghostly gossip). "Ooh, did you hear that?"(To be said with English accent)

PS If you haven't caught it yet, they are having Most Haunted Live this weekend. Four Episodes, where they are researching Jack the Ripper. Monday's is Live, well I'm sure for England it will be!

Yep  , that's the show I was thinking about , lol , what you said about Yvette cracked me up , she's such a spaz , although traipsing around an old graveyard would make me ill at ease too ,lol.

I have only seen about 2 episodes I believe , yeah , I'll have to check more , there's only one actual psychic that I trust fully , my sister went to her and wow what a story , I really am one of those "i'll believe it when I see it " people ,and see it with my own eyes right in front of me not on tv ,lol. That's why I can't wait for US to be somewhere with equipment , etc.. I know we'll have activity and I can't wait!

OOH, good, I'm glad we're discussing these guys.  Yvette bugs the crap out of me... sorry about that, but you're absolutely right that she freaks out at the slightest things! "Ooh what was that, did you hear that" (I am doing it with the accent in my mind, but obviously can't come across in writing with it... )...  What a poor excuse for a host too...

Then there's Derek... I have to admit, I was weary of him at first... but have to say after watching all of the episodes they've played for us in the US (there are gobbs of them they haven't shown us that have aired in the UK) and seeing how he was in the earlier episodes before he got as bold with his statements as he is now... I truley believe, if he is going there with no prior knowledge at all of these places - he really is gifted.  He comes up with startling acuracies that boggle me!  Now, I do have a problem with his possessions, but that's a whole other story!! lol  Sometimes I think that is partly theatrics or simply something that any psychic should be able to prevent.

There is another psychic on the show that I REALLY like, he seems calm and quiet in nature - but is always confident in what he says and is always coming up with info that benefits each case and in most every case I've seen supports what Derek is finding too.  I think his name is David... but he is just so gentle and I just "believe" him when his thoughts come out, it's like he has no cares that this is on television, he's just telling things as they are to him.  Maybe it's just his demeanor and the way he presents himself that makes me believe him and his thoughts are really just bollucks.  I think he's the real deal though.

Poor Stuart... everytime they go someplace he always ends up taking the brunt of whatever happens.  I really like their crew though, they seem to have a good mix, though they could try mixing in a little more equipment and experiment with their medium abilities and historical background as well.  Richard and Karl are both really great, and their resident skeptic really does try to come up with some valid complaints to discount what events have occurred during the nights.  All in all, I actually do like the show and watch it every week.  Some I just laugh my way through though, and others I am glued to the screen for what evidence they might catch.  Other than their light anomolies (a.k.a. - orbs) they do come up with mostly sound phenomenon.  Though there was a fabulous effect from a clock stopping and starting on a previous episode, a couple apparitions, some interesting EVP's... I always hold out for these little gems they can give us.  England is just teaming with spirits, I can't wait for us all to go!!

Hi Mandy!

A nightowl like me huh? I'll comment, is this is the one with that woman who freaks at EVERY single noise ? I think they were last in an airplane hangar? Plus the Psychic Derek? I really like that guy as far as his personality ,plus I have a thing for English , Irish and Scottish accents! lol . Again another show where the psychic is dead on , pun intended , even down to the names , not sure if they were  indirectly made to look bad by ones who say "I am getting something from someone with the initials JS , oh John Smith? Yeah that's it , he drives a white car and one of his grandparents just died in the last 15 years" lol , or if they are scripted on Tv or if they're just THAT good!  I like the show despite it's perfections , lol , I really liked the old Courthouse one in England , I think no matter how cheesy it's all still interesting
